BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION”

BSL is a Law passed by a Legislative body pertaining to a specific breed or breeds of domesticated animals.

Please NOTE there are several types of restrictions from outright bans to owning but

Oakland County areas with breed bans for the following:  American Pit Bill Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers:

 

Hazel Park, Mi (Lifted May 2015) 

Orchard Lake, Mi

Sylvan Lake Mi

Waterford Twp, Mi

The above areas share identical ordinances. They must also prove your dog is predominately one of the above breeds.  Please email us for a copy of the above ordinance.

Macomb County

No Bans but some restrictions to own!

Centerline (Some Restrictions)

Mt. Clemens (Some Restrictions)

Centerline’s ordinance is extremely vague. Please email us if you live in Centerline.

Wayne County:

 

Melvindale

Grosse Pointe Woods

Highland Park

Ecorse

Grosse Pointe Park (Ban Lifted 2008)

Allen Park (Ban Lifted in 2012)

Dearborn Heights (Some Restrictions)

Canton (Restrictions Lifted 2012)

Please Note Grosse Pointe Woods ordinance reads as follows:

A bull terrier breed of dog

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

American Pit Bull Terrier

American Staffordshire Terrier

Must be predominately mixed with the above breeds.

 

Other areas of Michigan:

Areas with OUTRIGHT bans:

Kingsford, Memphis, Tawas City, West Branch, Muskegon Heights, Alma, and Newaygo

Areas with certain restrictions if you own a pit bull:

Saginaw, Ypsilanti, Claybanks Twp, Roosevelt Park, Muskegon, Norton Shores, Lapeer and Southgate,

Areas where they have declared your pit bull as dangerous. Not a ban:

Birch Run, Buena Vista, Dearborn Heights, and Morenci
